EU grants 3 Mio Euro for Diabetes Research project

The European Union has granted a total of 3 Mio Euro for a cooperational research project coordinated by the German Diabetes Center in Duesseldorf. The consortium consists of 11 partners from four different European countries and covers university research fields, the pharmaceutical industry and biotechnology. The topic of this project is “Adipokines as Drug Targets to Combat Adverse Effects of Excess Adipose Tissue”.

The major goal of this project is to study obesity-associated alterations of adipose tissue secretory function, to identify novel adipokines and to assess their potential role in the induction of insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes. This is expected to lead to the development of new drugs and biomarkers.
