Adipose tissue gene expression and insulin sensitivity during calorie restriction and weight stabilization
Adipose tissue gene expression and insulin sensitivity during calorie restriction and weight stabilization
In a very recent publication from the ADAPT consortium it was reported that macrophage and fat cell gene expression in adipose tissue are differentially regulated during calorie restriction (Diabetes 58: 1558-1567, 2009). Further, clusters of genes rather than single genes are associated with improvement of insulin sensitivity. The beneficial effects of a long-term dietary weight loss program are critically related to the kinetics of changes within adipose tissue and the interaction between adipocytes and macrophages.
